Odiyur Lake

Whenever I used to drive in ECR I always wanted to blog about this place. It is Odiyur a village 52 Km from Pondicherry and 90 Km from Chennai. Why am I talking about this village? Actually not about this village it is about the lake in this village. Odiyur Lake is a boon for most of the photographers, people who love fishing and bird watching. People who travel to Pondicherry from Chennai, Odiyur Lake serve as a perfect relaxing spot. One of the biggest lakes you can find between ECR (East Coast Road). Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation has planted Mudaliyarkuppam Boat House(Now called as Raindrop Boat House) in Odiyur back waters. The boat house stands out from others in Tamil Nadu by offering Jet Ski and Kayaking in additional to Row boats, Banana rides and Speed boats.

Raindrop Boat House -Jet Ski
They have this package of 600 bucks per person with complimentary banana ride, few kayaks, veg and non veg lunch and finally a trip inside a island kinda place near the sea. That place serves are perfect chillout spot for fun sports like beach volley ball. Bachelors can have their private space. The beach is well maintained and clean. inpresence of sunlight you have this natural sheltor in the island which also served us a good spot for lunching.

With the help of some fisher man in nearby we can arrange catamaran ride. Normally they charge around 500 per person, which includes the ride for 3Km inside sea and make you float in water for 30mins with all precautionary life jackets. The catamaran ride is available only when the weather is safe for the ride.

Kookal a Bliss to Explore

This old man has no need for a big job, no corporate life, no traffic, and no deadlines. Life is about relaxing for him. This photo, taken over eight years ago in the serene village of Kookal in Kodaikanal, captures a moment of pure tranquility. In 2024, I revisited this hidden gem with my wife, mom, and driver. Although we couldn’t spot the old man, we found the place still brimming with its unique charm. Once a well-kept secret, Kookal has now been exposed to the world through Instagram and other social media platforms. Despite this, it remains relatively uncrowded, preserving its small-village allure. Kookal is a gateway to heaven. As we ventured deeper, we discovered many simple nature resorts, resembling huts. These aren’t luxurious five-star accommodations, but their beauty surpasses even the most opulent seven-star hotels. Although we couldn’t stay overnight, I was thrilled to let my family explore and feel the essence of Kodaikanal’s beauty.
